Online Presence - Design

For the band's online presence I first started by exploring a pattern design that could potentially be used as a header for the background or a repeating background on a website such as Twitter.

This was the first sketch that came to find.  It incorporates the bands signature skull image used in their logo alongside some other elements to add a bit more variation to the pattern.

I then took to design in to Illustrator to clean it up.  However it looks too clean and also just isn't grungy or edgy enough for the genre.  The hearts in particular are way too cutesy for a Riot Grrl/grunge mentality.

I then explored the "dead daisies" idea.  "Dead Daisies" will be a single on the bands album and also the name for their upcoming tour.  I initially incorporated the imagery of dirty looking daisy flowers in my poster designs because I thought the imagery of a pretty little flower contrasted really interestingly with grungy, dark colour schemes.  I used sketchy brushes and a wet blender in Photoshop to create a more traditional sketchbook like feel in these daisy illustrations and came up with the following pattern:

After this I went back and tweaked my initial pattern idea.  Instead of using clean vector lines I went over the sketches with a Photoshop bursh designed to mimic the imperfections of traditional inking, added sharper and more striking edges and also incorporated the daisy idea in to the design.

Here are some ideas I explored for the header image.  I went with the first design as I didn't like how the logos on the other two cut in to the background pattern.  I also like the similarities between this header design and the album art - I added scan lines and added a diffuse glow to also push the idea of a VHS tape still.
