Villain Character Design Evaluaion

This is the final villain model sheet.

I actually really like how the front view of this turned out.  One thing I've really been striving for this semester is o pain a lot looser and I feel like I'm really starting to improve in that aspect.  For instance instead of noodling in little details in the hand, I used a thick white line to outline the knuckles and fingers which successfully conveys the light source in the piece without adding too many strokes and complicating a tiny area.  In the same way I also made sure to make good use of my chosen light, mid and dark tones - all mixed from the chosen colour palette (top left.)

The back view looks really stiff and disproportionate.  Though I always make use of mirroring images throughout to check for proportion errors more time should have been spend at the sketching stage to ensure these proportions were correct.

Another issue is the hands.  Though I aimed for them to be over-sized and spindly they're a bit too un-orderly.  In the turnaround for this character they also come across as very flat.  I should have taken more time to properly design this part of the character and did studies of individual limbs before jumping in to the painting process.

In relation to the brief, I feel the Dota 2 concept influence is evident in its creepy design and again in the way colour, tone and saturation have been used to create visual interest.  However I feel the Bob Rafei influence has been completely lost in this one, as the design could be seen as less cartoonish and too serious.
