Proportion Tests and Research

Before I jump in to developing my characters for the project, it's really important that I nail down this Bob Rafei inspired cartoon like style.

Dave Guertin, Bob Rafei and Alessandra Criseo have been my main influences so far.

I've also found myself looking to Disney more and more for inspiration, as you can probably tell from the above mood board.

Some key characteristics in Bob Rafei's Jak and Daxter characters I've noted:
  • Proportion-wise, characters are usually 5 heads tall.
  • They have elongated arms with over-sized hands and feet.
  • Line work is very dynamic with lots of contrasting sharp lines and curves.

Next steps:
  • Draw from life in this style to really help develop it.
  • Silhouette work for the three characters.
