For this module in pitch we have to look at an old piece of work we liked and critique it. I've chosen my "Desert girl" character from my Digital Visualisation module last year.
One thing I like about this is how the hair and face are rendered. The lighting has been considered which has helped form the face and I also feel the character's expression has been done well. I also feel the hair (although perhaps a bit too big despite the idea being that most of her hair was sticking out of her hood) was successful as the highlights and dark tones are well placed in order to convey the volume.
However there are still some issues with proportion. Some parts of the figure, the legs for example, are anatomically incorrect and her boots are far too big. Furthermore, more research could have been done in order to create more realistic textures for her clothes. The feathers in her hair in particular are poorly rendered - they have little variation in tone and as a result look far too "solid," especially in comparison to how the rest of the figure is rendered.
Next steps - More anatomy and figure drawing practice in my spare time and do studies on fabric and other materials before jumping in to painting them.
... Also what's the deal with my signing it? That was a tad arrogant don't you think?
